The Clarkson City Commission last week set the city's 2025 property tax rates.

Clarkson City Clerk-Treasurer Scotty Gore said the tax rates were unchanged between their first and second readings, and they were approved unanimously.

The approved compensating rates will be 8.9 cents per $100 of assessed valuation on real estate; 29.06 cents per $100 of assessed valuation on tangible personal property; and 10 cents per $100 of assessed valuation on vehicles and watercraft.

Tax bills will go out in mid-to-late October, and those who pay their bill before the end of November will receive a 2% discount, Gore said.

In other business, the city commission:

*Was informed the city received a $699 grant from Owensboro Health to install Fitt Fiddle signs encouraging active lifestyles around Clarkson City Park. They will be installed in October.

*Passed a motion to send a list of blighted properties to City Attorney Tom Goff, who will then send letters to property owners requesting they improve their properties.

*Received an update on the city's sidewalk project and was informed that the quote provided to the city for the cost of right-of-ways was incorrect, and they will now cost around $54,000 as opposed to $4,000.

*Set trick-or-treating hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31.

*Heard from Anthony Andretta, of Globe Life Insurance, who addressed the city commission regarding life insurance for city employees, which would be paid for by employees, not the city. No action was taken to allow Goff time to review the proposal and agreement. The commission will vote on the agreement during its October meeting.

*Voted to authorize the Clarkson Fire Department to purchase a new side-by-side.

*Discussed having a city booth at Treats on the Trail, which will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11.

*Received a quote from Warren RECC to have a new street light installed on Elizabethtown Road, which would cost the city an additional $12.90 per month, but no action was taken to allow officials more time to investigate the issue.
